December 2014 witnessed the South Korean Nuclear Power plant being hacked. Leaked data from Gori-2 and Wolsong-1 South Korean Nuclear Power Plants operated by Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) was posted online using a twitter account named “President of Anti-Nuclear Reactor Group”.
South Korean Yonhap News Agency reported that the hackers were able to access floor map designs and architectural blue prints of the Nuclear reactor. Leaked information also included personal data of employees, a radiation exposure report and details of facilities like air conditioning/cooling systems. The hacktivists threatened to leak more data of the nuclear plant if the authorities didn’t close it down.
The attack is believed to be the work of some group that wants to cause social unrest in the world. In the meanwhile, a Hawaii based anti-nuclear power group claimed responsibility for this hack.
